TOUR DESCRIPTION

On our five-day adventour we will get to know the charms and traditions of three Slovenian regions – Primorska, Gorenjska and Central Slovenian region. Each one is interesting in its own way and full of various attractions.

The Karst Plateau stretches between the Vipava Valley, Brkini and the Gulf of Trieste, and is located in Primorska region. The limestone soil and water created a unique underground world on this plateau, and the soil enabled the development of incomparable cuisine. Only here the mild climate and the bora enable the drying of Karst prosciutto, and only here the red soil from the Refošk vine makes a good Teran wine. The unique flora accompanies us here at every turn. All this is Karst!

In Gorenjska region we will visit the Arboretum Volčji potok, which every year attracts crowds of lovers of flowers and nature. A walk through the landscaped garden areas of the park changes throughout the season and never disappoints. It stretches over 88 hectares, and includes five landscaped lakes and 30 hectares of forest.

Nearby, below the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, is the town of Kamnik. Its rich history and the preserved town center take us back to the time when Kamnik was the seat of the Carniolan principality and there were many craft workshops. The birthplace of General Rudolf Maister was once protected by a castle that stood on a hill above the town as early as the 12th century. To this day, a two-storey castle chapel has been preserved here, which still marks the panorama of the city today.

In the Central Slovenian region we will visit the largest park in Ljubljana, the Tivoli Park. It was opened in 1813 and renovated before the Second World War according to the plans of Slovene architect Jože Plečnik. Together with Rožnik and Šiška hill, it forms the Protected Area Tivoli, Rožnik and Šiška hill (Landscape Park), which covers 509 hectares. There are also two castles in the park, Cekin Castle and Tivoli Castle, which house the International Centre of Graphic Arts and the National Museum of Contemporary History, which we will visit as part of a guided tour of the park.
