CARNIVAL, CARNIVAL OF LARGE MOUTHS!

Carnival in the town of Cerknica is a very special experience! Inhabitants of Butale (they think they are really smart, but in fact dumb) take power on the Holy Thursday and then the merrymaking begins! That wakes up the horrifying witches of Slivnica with witch Ursula at the forefront, flood man Jezerko, dragon, giant pike and others – all to chase away the winter. Witches kitchen will open its doors and show you the real witch culinary, now the merrymaking can really begin!

We will start our arrival at Notranjska region with a short walk to Cerknica Lake, the largest intermittent lake in Slovenia. The unique game of nature, where grass is cut in summer and fish are caught in autumn, is the scene of many mystical stories that appear as masks at the carnival. From the lookout plateau, Slivnica is also clearly visible, a hill where the witches found their home and today still cook their brews in the cave below the top.

Then the path will lead us to one of local inns to grab a lunch and later to the town of Cerknica, where we will visit the main event, The Cerknica Carnival. We will watch the carnival procession and enjoy the local offer of products and food, especially delicious donuts.
