Škofja Loka is a town in Slovenia that lies at the confluence of the rivers Selška and Poljanska Sora, below the picturesque Škofja Loka hills. Once a town of bishops from Freising, it boasts a long and rich history. Here, creativity and history merge into one, for which the Škofja Loka Passion Play is the best example.
Every six years, local enthusiasts repeat the performance and 2021 is the Jubilee Year of the Passion Play. 300 years ago, in a Capuchin monastery, Father Romuald wrote 863 verses of a biblical story. The performance with just under 1,000 actors has been inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Heritage List since 1996.
Our trip will begin with a walk through the old city streets of Škofja Loka, which are also the scene of the Passion Play. We will get to know the history of the town and the performance, and will finish our tour at Škofja Loka Castle. Here, we will take a look at part of the permanent installation and focus mainly on the exhibition on Passion Play.
After visiting the castle, we will walk to the Capuchin monastery, where we will see the old Capuchin library that houses the manuscript of Škofja Loka Passion Play. A late lunch will follow at one of the local inns.

A charming trip and city! Thanks to the agency Mi znamo for a pleasant trip.
